Dr.
Bernstein, a Type I diabetic, writes a very detailed book in which
he describes his system for controlling diabetes. He offers a
step-by-step system where patients can take control and adjust their
sugar levels to normal through his diet and exercise program.
Dr. Bernstein begins the book with chapters on the basics of
diabetes, tests for baseline measure of the disease, supplies
needed, how and when to measure blood sugar, recording blood sugar
and a treatment plan.
He then continues with the next section
on treatment such as a customized meal plan, weight loss, and
exercise.
In the last section there is information on
low-carbohydrate meals and several recipes are included.
This
is a very detailed-oriented book and is excellent reading for
patients who have diabetes or anyone who has a family member with
this disease. The book is written in a manner which is easy
for every person to understand. Dr. Bernstein also offers
testimonials in the book from patients who have used his
methods. He does a very thorough job of explaining his logic
for this type of diet and exercise program.
