Sean
King, Secret Service Agent, was supposed to be protecting a
presidential candidate. However, he was distracted for just
one moment and the candidate was fatally wounded. King retired
and now works as a lawyer.
Could something like this
happen again? Several years later, Secret Service Agent,
Michelle Maxwell, had the assignment of protecting a third party
presidential candidate, John Bruno. Bruno was at the funeral
home to pay his respects to the wife of the man who died. He
did not want the entire group to parade into the funeral parlor.
Michelle said she would stay but Bruno insisted on having some
privacy with the widow. Michelle finally agreed but only after
he gave her two minutes to check everything out to be sure it was
safe. Her agents assured her that everything was secure.
There were no windows and only one door in and out. Now she
would let Bruno have his private time with the widow.
Then
the unthinkable happened. Michelle called for Mr. Bruno
indicating that they needed to get going. The doorknob was
locked. She called out again asking Mr. Bruno if he was all
right. She heard Bruno's voice saying "just a minute".
After several attempts, they sensed something was wrong. Then
she stated "Mr. Bruno your wife is on the phone and there has been a
serious accident involving one of your kids". The same answer
came back "just a minute". Michelle knew something was
definitely wrong and motioned for the agents to take the door
down. The room was empty except for the dead man in the
casket.
Much to their surprise, John Bruno had been
abducted. How could someone have done this when everything was
just checked for security?
Sean King and Michelle Maxwell
come together as a team to try and find answers and along the way
find danger.
Do they find the answers they are
searching for?
This book has a very intriguing plot, which
moves the book along at a fast pace. David Baldacci sets the
tone of the book from the very first page. It will captivate
you to keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.
There are many twists in the story since it involves a plot and a
subplot. Split Second is one of David Baldacci's best books -
if not the best! Add it to your reading list.
