WHERE READING IS FUN!

Featured Book - Why Marx Was Wrong by Lawrence Eubank

whymarxwaswrongmed.jpgThe subject of this book is the "negative assault on democratic capitalism" embodied in "Das Kapital," Marx's great work devoted to delineating the crimes and injustices of capitalist societies and market economies.

The book is a systematic, step-by-step analysis of Marx's logic. It challenges the arguments and deductions by which he reaches his main conclusion:  that capitalism is corrupt in its essential nature, and that capitalists gain wealth not by any legitimate
means, but by appropriating unpaid labor or "surplus value" from the working masses. Despite  the disappearance of the Soviet bloc and the waning
of Communist zealotry, that is still a widely-believed doctrine.

Marx's accusation against capitalism, and the course of arguments by which he arrives at it, together form the subject of this book.

Featured Book - Sorrows & Songs by Janice Wood Wetzel

sorrows&songs2.jpgSorrows & Songs addresses with candor the events that have shaped and challenged the author's life. The forthright telling of her story through her 80th year is written in engaging vignettes, moving snapshots of memories of both Sorrows& Songs within the context of world events. Though not written in chronological order, it alludes to the Great Depression, World War II, the restrained 1950s, Civil Rights and Women's movements, 9-11, and the Global Women's movement.

Janice's life is unique in its accomplishments and resilience as a social work dean, professor and United Nations representative, as it is the personal story of common challenges experienced by girls and women from the 1930s through the early 21st century.

Featured Book - Ends of the World by Matthew Waterman

endsoftheworld.jpgThe author is reading this novel as it is being written, beginning his journey on a desolate street after striking a little boy with his car. There are no witnesses. There is no reason to fear recrimination from a higher power. Yet the author is conscience-compelled to divine the boy's state. Set against an incongruous backdrop of mythic canon and the grime of the city, the novel follows the author's desperate plight even as his flights of fancy undermine the authenticity of the narration. With his loved ones imperiled and his sanity losing its grip, can the author receive some sort of epiphany before the dark conspiracy brings about an end to his world?
