![]() WHAT ARE FEREL CATS?Can a feral cat be taken into a home as a pet? There is a better chance with the feral kitten. There is less of a chance in trying to socialize an adult feral cat since they have not had contact with humans. If a feral kitten can be captured between six and eight weeks old, there is a good chance it can be socialized. Feral cats often live in groups called ferel colonies. A feral cat normally does not live very long – approximately two years. There have been reported cases of some feral cats living 19 years if they have food and shelter. Many animal shelters have programs to capture and sterilize feral cats and then return them to their colony. They also try to remove any ill or injured cats from the colony.
