When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder--much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing--not even a smear of blood--to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Mortal Instruments includes: Plagiarism, Mary Sue's, Cliche's and more...:
I was on a vacation with my friends and had finished two of my books fairly quickly. I went to Wal-Mart to buy another book to keep me interested. I stumbled upon this one. I picked it up and decided to give it a shot--the plot seemed interesting enough: Clary Fray and her best friend Simon are thrust into the world of Shadowhutners (Nephilim, a race of human/angels) and Downworlders (vampires, werewolves, faeries, etc.) I read it quickly and finished it after a few hours. ***This review contains minor... more info
Its not perfect but I liked it:
Ok, so I see that some people hated this series, but I really liked it. Is it perfect? No. Could some things be more consistant and smooth? Sure. But I like the characters, though Clary, as the lead character, is not my favorite, she seems to not know who she is AT ALL. Which gives me a headache. I mean, self discovery is great and all but she thinks and says one thing and does the opposite. Theres nothing worse than wanting to yell at your main character all the time. The rest of it is entertaining... more info
contains unneeded anti-Jewish joke:
I read this book to see if it was appropriate for my 9 year old child to read. It contains a totally unneeded for the story line anti-Jewish joke that is in poor taste and not even funny. Really, it ruined the book for me and I think it shows poor judgement, poor editorial effort and makes me wonder about the character, or lack thereof, of the author.
Immortal Instruments:
Cassandra Clare is becoming one of my favorite authors. I couldn't get enough! I didn't want to stop reading the series. I love her writing style and I felt like I could relate to the characters. It's romantic and funny. I would definately recommend it.
