River Bodies by Karen Katchur

River BodiesWhile this is considered a thriller – it has great elements but misses the mark. While crimes were committed, why were they committed? How can an entire town be oblivious to what is going on. There were a lot of allusions to a cover-up but no reason as to why.

Becca Kingsley has had enough of her cheating boyfriend and has decided to go home. After many years away from home she returns to find her estranged father and former police chief dying with his latest girlfriend taking care of him. A murder from the past is eerily similar to a recent body found in the river. This starts Becca on a trail of remembrance about the earlier crime and her cousin John. Becca finds her former sweetheart is now a detective and investigating the current murder.

The past meets the present when the perpetrator is finally revealed in a tense scene at the end.

All in all this is a great read.
