Love in Mid Air by Kim Wright

airReviewed by Nancy Eaton

Did you ever board a plane, sit next to an attractive member of the opposite sex and let your thoughts run wild? Maybe, just maybe, you wondered “What if?”

Elyse Bearden arrived at the airport ready for her return trip home. She had been in Phoenix for a pottery show. As she boarded the plane and was about to sit down, a man with a strong accent kept telling her something about his son has a seat way in the back and asked if she would switch seats with him so they could be together. She really did not want a seat in the back but said yes so the father and son could sit together. It turned out the man’s son is about thirty. What Elyse did not know is that this switch in seats is about to change her life!

The man now sitting next to her in the new seat is tall and attractive. They begin to talk and this is the beginning of an affair to come that would change her life and really make her think of what she wants for a change.

Elyse’s marriage is falling apart but she admits that her husband, Phil, is a decent man and a good father. The reader will get the impression that he just seems a little dull and does not show much interest in Elyse. She tried everything to save the marriage including counseling.

Elyse knows that whatever decision she makes will not only affect her marriage and children but also her friends. What does she decide to do?

From the moment I looked at the title of this book, I had to read it. It turned out to be everything I imagined. I really like Kim Wright’s writing style. As she opens the story and tells us about the main character’s daily routines, you can just feel Elyse getting more and more bored with her life. The author has a way of making the reader feel the redundancy in Elyse’s routine. Kim Wright will also make you laugh because there are many funny lines written into the story. Love in Mid Air has great ingredients – unforgettable characters, a good story, and that “What If” concept that one might think about now and then.
