Judgement & Wrath by Matt Hilton
Joe Hunter returns in Matt Hilton’s Judgement &Wrath. He has now moved to Florida where he has partnered up with his buddy, Jared “Rink” Rington in his private investigation business. Some would call Joe a vigilante although he just thinks of his work as helping those in need.
Joe meets with Richard Dean who wants to hire Joe to rescue his young daughter, Marianne, from her mega rich boyfriend, Bradley Jorgenson. He tells Joe that Bradley is physically abusing Marianne and produces a police report as proof. In the police report Marianne refused to name her attacker. Dean wants Marianne returned to him and any threat from Jorgensen eliminated.
Joe agrees to take the job but it quickly becomes much more of a job than originally anticipated. He moves in next door to the home that Marianne and Bradley are currently residing in to set up surveillance. Joe manages to introduce himself to Marianne when she steps into the yard and tell her he is there to help. However he doesn’t get the chance to explain why he is there or what he is going to help her with before Bradley calls her back in the house.
Events move quite quickly after their introduction. In Joe’s surveillance he spots Dantalion, a hired killer heading into the Jorgenson home. Joe rushes in to help. Suddenly the job is not just getting Marianne away from Bradley but just trying to keep them both alive with the obsessive killer Dantalion in hot pursuit.
Judgement & Wrath is an excellent follow up to Dead Man’s Dust. The action is non-stop and you won’t want to put the book down until you finish it as quickly as you can. I look forward to further adventures of Joe Hunter and Rink.
